Welcome to UMR BOA

The BOA joint research unit

In a European context that aims to reconcile the efficiency of animal production with environmental protection, animal health and welfare and product quality, the BOA unit proposes and evaluates innovations in livestock farming and selection.

Research focuses on the efficient use of diversified feed resources by animals, improving their adaptability and robustness to support the agroecological transition of farming systems and cope with climate change, while controlling the quality of eggs and meat.

Bringing together geneticists and physiologists, the unit has the complementary expertise to develop studies at different levels of regulation (genetic, transcriptomic, epigenetic, protein, metabolic, physiological) and to understand the interactions between functions.

The unit's research is organized around three axes, shared by its three teams, with the aim of:

(1) To characterize the physiological, molecular and genetic mechanisms that control the main biological functions of birds (digestion, metabolism, growth and development, adaptation, muscle biology, egg formation and function),

(2) Propose tools for phenotyping traits of interest by developing indicators or biomarkers that can be used in selection or to improve farming practices,

(3) Integrate knowledge and tools to study interactions between functions and assess the multi-performance of systems.
